As the Aeronautical Center continues its journey towards creating a more equitable and accessible environment for all, here are some highlights from recent DEIA discussions and Initiatives.
David Guy, Supervisor Operations Support Specialist in the Flight Research & Analysis Branch, is steering the ship as the DEIA Council Chair. David Williams, a Logistics Management Specialist in the Logistics Center was recently elected as Co-Chair. The team comprises both management representatives and employees, ensuring that every voice is heard in the pursuit of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
One of the primary focuses is to explore mentoring and internship possibilities within various organizations across the MMAC. The Council is particularly interested in creating pathways for high school and college students, with a strong emphasis on minority institutions and tribal participants within our state.

Two of the council members recently attended the Oklahoma State Schools Address at the Cowboy Hall of Fame, where they gained valuable insights. The event highlighted the importance of individuals staying or returning to the state where they attended college. It also showcased the state’s commitment to supporting 7th and 8th graders through mentoring and other means.
The DEIA Council is actively exploring collaboration with in-state colleges and universities for niche projects. The MMAC is also looking into internship opportunities, with discussions centered around potential high school projects similar to the current capstone projects.
The Council’s commitment to diversity extends to reaching out to minority institutions, and they are actively engaging with both tribal and minority organizations.
Jamie Loving provided an insightful presentation on MMAC’s STEM/AVSED overview and outreach efforts. Collaborations with organizations like the Oklahoma Black Aviation Professionals (OBAP) and educators are flourishing.
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) has introduced the AOPA High School STEM Curriculum, which is gaining traction. This program is not limited to traditional schools and includes options for homeschooling cooperatives.
