The Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center is thrilled to share the heartwarming results of the recent volunteer event in partnership with the True Sky Foundation. On August 31, 2023, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, employees from the Aeronautical Center and the True Sky Foundation came together at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma for a night of purposeful volunteering.
The shared mission was clear: to ensure that no one in Oklahoma goes hungry. With Oklahoma ranked as the fifth hungriest state in the nation, this event was a crucial step in making a positive impact on the community.
During the event, volunteers worked hand in hand to assemble food packages for families in Oklahoma. The group is pleased to report that over 16,000 nutritious meals were prepared for fellow Oklahomans in need. This remarkable achievement was made possible thanks to the dedication of nearly 80 volunteers who willingly gave their time.
Volunteers were divided into two groups: one group worked on inserting canned goods into boxes, while the other group focused on preparing bulk corn. The energy and enthusiasm in the room were contagious, with some volunteers being seasoned contributors to the food bank and others experiencing this act of kindness for the first time.
It is important to note that volunteer efforts extended to children aged 8 and older, allowing them to work alongside their parents or guardians. This not only creates a bonding experience, but also provides an excellent opportunity for the students to earn volunteer credits for school.
This partnership with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma holds special significance. The organization has been at the forefront of the battle against hunger in central and western Oklahoma since 1980. They distribute an astonishing 50 million pounds of food to Oklahomans through a network of over 1,300 partners across 53 counties.
Beyond the immediate impact on those in need, volunteering has far-reaching benefits for individuals and organizations alike. Research has shown that volunteering boosts productivity, increases engagement, and improves hiring and retention. It aligns with the Center’s values and enhances sense of purpose, contributing to physical and mental well-being.
As everyone celebrates this successful volunteer event, remember that the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center’s commitment to community service continues. The next volunteer opportunities are scheduled for October 21st and November 4th from 9:30 am to Noon. Register with Katy Williams to be a part of these meaningful experiences.
Together, we are making a difference in the lives of neighbors in crisis and strengthening bonds as a community united by a common purpose.
