We are excited to announce that Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center employee Bryan Dahlvang, AMC-3, has been awarded the 2021 Service to the Citizen award. The "Service to the Citizen: Champions of Change" Program recognizes those public servants and their industry partners who demonstrate excellence in their delivery of services to the public. Even more impressive is the fact that Bryan is the only member from the Department of Transportation to win this year’s award! Congratulations, Bryan!
Service to the Citizen is pleased to recognize Bryan Dahlvang as a 2021 Champion of Change who has demonstrated strong commitment to improving the lives of citizens, businesses and employees. At a time when the need to transform government, increase morale and build trust with the public has never been greater, leaders such as Bryan are driving difficult but focused change to ensure a more efficient and effective government. Thank you, Bryan, for your dedicated service!
Bryan Dahlvang is a Communications Program Specialist for the Quality Systems and Business Resources Staff (AMC-3) for the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC). Having been employed in this organization for over three years, Bryan is a U.S. Air Force Veteran and has been a public servant for nearly three decades. Undoubtedly, Bryan is a creative and innovative artist. He applies his talents in support of the MMAC and FAA goals to deliver quality government services. His service knows no boundaries, as he designs and crafts art at global, national, state, and community levels.
Bryan uses his illustration skills to create important messaging that impacts everyday citizens. His artwork reflects and enhances the appropriate message, making it understandable to each audience. His work may inspire, instruct, or motivate citizens to action. His art is seen in a variety of media, whether designing a logo for a federal institution, delivering a message through a web-based newsletter, developing a commemorative coin, or creating a Zoom background to enhance an organization’s branding.
Bryan Dahlvang’s work continually impacts the public’s lives, whether they are looking at artwork for pleasure or are seeking information. He brings a unique talent to government service, ensuring that the messages delivered are Section 508 Compliant, or are in adherence for persons with disabilities. His efforts are seen frequently during specialized events such as Veteran’s Day, Engineering Week, or Black History Month, to name a few.
When he’s not working at his full-time job, Bryan continually devotes his artistic talents to his community. His passion is his work. He advocates for the profession and participates in local and national art competitions. For over a decade, Bryan taught art lessons at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and he works with the Metropolitan Library System in teaching art to students during their summer reading programs. He has taught art lessons at the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center, as well as from his personal studio. Dahlvang is also a Book Judge (Design and Illustration category) for the Oklahoma Center for the Book. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Oklahoma City University in 1997, Bryan has exhibited in over 150 different art shows and exhibits. Bryan’s reach in artistic design exceeds the boundaries of Oklahoma, as some of his photography recently returned from an exhibit with the "We Belong to the Land/Nous appartenons a la Terre" show in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
Bryan enhances the delivery of the FAA’s messages, making external organizations’ communication more effective, and encouraging students to pursue aviation occupations. Effective Communication plays an important role in the lives of citizens, but if the message offers a little something ’extra’, something visually pleasing or relative to making the message more meaningful or understandable, then Bryan Dahlvang’s work has been accomplished.
"They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Bryan speaks volumes with his artistic talents across multiple types of media," says Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center Director Michelle Coppedge. "He consistently produces innovative and creative designs, while always finding a way to link his artistic talents to the mission," she said. Aeronautical Center Deputy Director Kevin O’Connor also commented, "I am so excited for Bryan to win this award. He is so deserving – he truly is an amazing artist and an incredibly dedicated public servant. We are so fortunate to have him as part of our MMAC team and we are extremely proud of all that he does in the local community to advance the Arts."
