Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Symposium
Vol.7 Issue 6

DE&I guests were able to visit the MMAC’s virtual booth to learn about the Aeronautical Center, and to chat with representatives who were standing by

Diversity is integral to achieving FAA’s mission of ensuring safe and efficient travel across our nation and beyond. Because diversity is so critical to the FAA’s mission, Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) employees are encouraged to engage in a variety of associations, programs, coalitions and initiatives to support and accommodate employees from diverse communities and backgrounds. This was evidenced by the MMAC’s participation in the FAA’s first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) symposium, which was held on July 14th and 15th, 2021.

The DEI symposium was a two-day, come-and-go, virtual conference that had presentations, discussion panels, and breakout sessions provided by various FAA offices, Employee Associations, the FAA Tech Center and the MMAC. The MMAC’s booth had live chat available and was manned by center employees, Justin Cockroft, Katy Williams, Debbie Uglean, Chanda Sanders, and intern Ar’Manni Pretlow.

Current and potential FAA employees across the United States attended the event. Post event data reflected that the DEI Symposium had 1,373 logged-in users and that the MMAC booth had 254 total booth visits, 68 document clicks, 41 video views, and 103 tab-clicks. Overall, the event had 5,235 total booth visits. These numbers are proof of the interest in FAA’s diversity and inclusion efforts and initiatives.

Information about the Center, a link to USAJobs, information about Air Traffic Controller hiring, the "At the Center" video, and the latest version of the Monroney News newsletter were available to MMAC booth visitors. Booth representatives were also prepared to answer any questions regarding Oklahoma City and its surrounding communities, for people who may be thinking about transferring to the local area.

More information regarding the FAA’s various diversity and inclusion initiatives and programs can be found by going to faa.gov and entering "diversity and inclusion" in the search bar in the upper right section of the page.
