On April 24-27, 2023, the Aeronautical Center hosted a visit from Richard Mattison, Agency Records Officer (ARO), and two of the Office of Finance and Management, Policy and Administration Organization (ASP-110) Records and Information Management staff, Shhonn Taylor and Richard Allen. Shhonn is the Deputy ARO and Richard Allen is a Records and Information Management Specialist whose primary role is Agency Records Schedules.
The three individuals were at the Aeronautical Center primarily to meet and collaborate with the FAA Academy on a new record process and discuss Records Management training development. While at the Center, the visitors provided briefings to the Center Management Team and other personnel on Capstone Projects, the Digitization processes, and the new FAA Electronic Records Repository Administration (ERRA) tool.
In addition to the briefings, the individuals met with the Quality Systems and Business Resources Staff, the FAA Academy, and Enterprise Services Center and had discussions with personnel from the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI), Regional Human Resource Services Division, Registry Services, and Information Management. Each office had its own specific records management issues, and the Aeronautical Center personnel were very excited to have the experts on hand to discuss their current records issues.
This was the second visit by Richard Mattison and Richard Allen, but it was a first for Shhonn Taylor, so some time was spent identifying the organizations and explaining how the Aeronautical Center works in tandem to ensure the safety and success of aviation.
The visitors received tours of CAMI and the FAA Academy and enjoyed learning about the new process developed by the Academy and are looking forward to seeing it come to fruition. They also enjoyed seeing the inside of a Common Air Route Surveillance Radar (CARSR) and flying one of the Regulatory Standards Advanced Aviation Training Devices. They were enthusiastic when hearing from Aeronautical Center trainers and learning the technical processes involved in training personnel.
All in all, the visit was a complete success, as there were multiple discussions and the parties plan to have further continued collaboration. As the Agency Records Officer stated regarding maintaining and improving the Records Management process, "It is a collaboration - One Team One Fight!"
