The Office of Career and Leadership Development (AHD) has implemented the Career Development on-Demand Pilot Program Phase III, which includes the Air Traffic Organization’s (ATO) Career Planning Tool. The ATO Career Planning Tool (CPT) is an online career planning and development resource developed by the ATO and is available to all FAA employees. The CPT helps employees take charge of their careers by providing convenient access to helpful information regarding potential career paths and target positions within the ATO. Employees can use CPT to identify their career interests; explore career paths across the ATO; understand various target positions and what is required to perform them; bolster their knowledge and skills to prepare for target positions, and establish individual development plans to help them reach their career goals. CPT helps employees consider professional growth through a career lattice (vs. career ladder) approach, with a focus on developing knowledge and skills through job experiences. Convenient webinars are offered routinely to help employees get the most out of CPT and to learn about other career development resources in the ATO.

Although the target positions and career paths are for ATO positions, CPT includes many features that can benefit all employees including a self-reflection assessment, career planning guidance, development ideas by competency and band level that apply to a wide range of positions across the FAA, and detailed career information for positions that are common across the FAA (e.g., Program Manager, Project Manager, IT Specialist, Engineer, Management and Program Analyst).
