Oklahoma is moving into the winter season and the possibility of winter weather affecting the road conditions is likely over the next few months. These conditions may make travel to, from, and on the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) difficult until streets, roads, and sidewalks are cleared. When weather events threaten to impact the MMAC campus, the Office of Facility Management (AMP) monitors weather conditions on a continuous basis. The MMAC Director relies on information from AMP, National Weather Service Forecasts, and visual Aeronautical Center inspections to determine the best possible decision regarding the operating status of the MMAC. Once a status decision is approved, AMP will communicate this information through the sources listed below:

COMMUNICATION SOURCES

  1. MMAC Emergency Notification System (ENS)– The Aeronautical Center uses the FAA-wide AtHoc Emergency Notification System (ENS). This is our primary source for emergency notifications and is the fastest way to share information. MMAC status alerts will be sent out on this system via phone calls, texts, and emails based on employees’ and contractors’ MyFAA profiles. You will only receive these alerts on your personal phone if you have provided your personal phone number on your MyFAA profile, or if you have downloaded the mobile app. If your profile is not current, you will risk not receiving the emergency/alert messages.   2. MMAC Status Line (405) 954-0040– The status line should be updated as early as possible on the business day in question; however, each event is different, and conditions may change rapidly, which may cause a delay or a change in the status. AMP will make every effort to have the status line updated by 5:00 a.m. or as soon as possible after a decision has been made on any given day. The phone line is a backup communication method available primarily for those in short term travel status or for those who do not have access to a MyFAA profile.

  3. Oklahoma Closings– This service allows agencies like the FAA to push operating status information out to the local news media where it can be viewed during television broadcasts. You usually see this information scrolling at the bottom of your television screen when watching a local news channel during a severe weather event. You can also go directly to a local news website and see if FAA MMAC operating status is listed. You will see two entries - one for the FAA Center and one for the FAA Center Academy. The below listed television channels are notified.
    KFOR (Channel 4)
    KOCO (Channel 5)
    KWTV (Channel 9)
    KOKH (Channel 25)

TRAVEL ROUTES

Metropolitan Cities, Counties, and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation have the responsibility to keep routes open in and around the Oklahoma City Metroplex. The website provides good information on winter preparedness as well as identifying the multiple travel routes available to the Aeronautical Center.
