STEM Outreach Activities Resume
Vol.8 Issue 3

After two years of being on hiatus for any science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) outreach activities, the Aeronautical Center is now able to resume with in-person outreach events.

(L-R) Debbie Uglean and Justin Cockroft serve as Ambassadors for the Aeronautical Center in the recent Aerospace Commerce Economic Services Career Fair.

The last week of March, two separate outreach activities were held. On March 23rd, employees from the Quality Systems and Business Resources Staff (AMC-3), Justin Cockroft and Debbie Uglean participated in the Aerospace Commerce Economic Services (ACES) Career Fair hosted at Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Collectively, they spoke with nearly a hundred people representing High School Seniors, college students pursuing engineering degrees, military members transitioning out of active-duty service and members in the workforce seeking new opportunities. The event provided opportunities for the public to interface with industry, government, and educational representatives in aerospace careers. Other participating groups included: Boeing, Tinker Air Force Base, Delaware Resource Group, L3Harris, Kratos and Embry-Riddle University.

Another STEM event held during the same time, was the Oklahoma Engineering Foundation’s (OEF) 2022 Engineering Fair. Justin Cockroft and Katy Williams (joined virtually), both of AMC-3, and Evan Evans of the Oklahoma State University’s Unmanned System Research Institute (USRI) hosted and judged the drone obstacle course activity. The Fair was held virtually as students from across the state submitted videos of themselves performing failsafe safety checks and flight demonstrations with their drones. They maneuvered over, under and through obstacle courses. The event was a great way to expose Oklahoma’s youth to a variety of activities in STEM. Approximately 500 students participated in the Engineering Fair.
