2022 Represents an Exceptional Year for the Aeronautical Center
Vol.8 Issue 9
Top Workplace Status "Rankings Revealed"

It’s official… on the evening of December 1st at the Criterion event center, the rankings were revealed among the Top Workplaces in Oklahoma and… the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center was announced as a Top Workplace in Oklahoma for the third consecutive year! We ranked 18th in the state! Congratulations to each of you, as this award reflects the incredible, engaged culture we have at the Center.

Additionally, at the end of October, another remarkable feat was achieved by the Center. In 2018 the AMC organization decided to take on a ’Big Hairy Audacious Goal’ to achieve $125M in cost savings and cost avoidance by the year 2025. In October, we learned from our budget office that AMC organizations exceeded this target by $1.6M, achieving $126.6M in savings! This kind of commitment is remarkable, as it shows dedication to numerous employee-driven, innovative, creative ways to automate processes, restructure contracts, improve business processes, enhance workforce management and so much more.

It’s rewarding to see so many employees being recognized for their work at the Center, in the community, and nationally. It’s nice to be a federal agency that continues to be known for a series of best practices. Our MMAC Energy Conservation Team, our Electric Vehicle & Infrastructure Team, the AOS Building Lighting Retrofit Group and our Energy Program Manager, Russ Goering have been recognized for implementing award-winning sustainability initiatives. If other agencies weren’t aware of the Aeronautical Center’s exceptional efforts, they are now. Individuals from these programs continue to strengthen the Aeronautical Center’s reputation.

Special congratulations to all this year’s Pathfinder Award Winners and Nominees. Employees winning or having been nominated for such awards demonstrated certain proficiencies. Each of them contributed to improving the workplace, increasing efficiency, reducing costs, helping teams transition from one process to another, acting as a team player while serving as a work horse, functioning proactively to develop creative solutions, and they all demonstrated a willingness to step up to address a problem; unafraid to reach out to others for tapping into their expertise. These represent admirable characteristics of a dedicated, extraordinary workforce. All of us, including taxpayers benefit from such attributes. Congratulations again to these individuals who continue to make a difference.

As you may have heard, the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute is currently conducting a Pilot Reports (PIREPs) Proof of Concept Study, for pilots to volunteer their time in reporting their weather observations when over-flying within 50-nautical miles of Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, and the Nenana Municipal Airport in Alaska. Please share this information with any pilot you know who might like to participate in this study. They can register at https://cbtopsatcami.faa.gov

As a reminder, it’s not too late to consider giving to the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), because the campaign has been extended to Friday, January 13th. There are so many people and charities that are in need of our help. Please consider giving whatever you can to contribute to the greater good.

As we close out this year, we are mindful of the tremendous work culture we have at the Aeronautical Center and the many blessings that have been bestowed upon us as workers and as human beings. We appreciate all your efforts and dedication throughout the year. We hope that you’ll be able to take some time to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of the season.

Wishing you a memorable and wonderful holiday,

Michelle Coppedge
Director, Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center
