Here’s a great way to give your community a helping hand. On Saturday, September 24th from 9:30am-Noon and from 1:30pm-4:30pm, members of the True Sky Credit Union Foundation, along with Aeronautical Center employees have the chance to help the not-so-fortunate in our community. For two and a half hours, in either time slot, you could give back to fellow Oklahomans who need your help. This is much more than just participating in an employee engagement activity; it’s a rewarding experience, and in the long run, it makes you a healthier person. Research shows that those who spend time volunteering develop a great sense of purpose in life, thereby changing their entire outlook. Volunteers are more motivated to live healthier lifestyles in order to achieve their goals.
The intent is to work together, preparing food packages for kids, with a goal of diminishing hunger across the state of Oklahoma. Families, friends and co-workers are welcome to volunteer. Children ages 8 and up are welcome to help too (children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times). This is an excellent opportunity for high school and college students to earn credit for volunteer activities. All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and it is recommended that any sort of jewelry be left at home to avoid loss or damage.
If you are interested in participating, please notify Justin Cockroft to register. Since 1980, the Regional Food Bank has led the fight against hunger in central and western Oklahoma. Oklahoma is the fifth hungriest state in the nation. The majority of people served by the Regional Food Bank are chronically hungry children, and seniors who are living on limited incomes, as well as hardworking families who are struggling to make ends meet. Through its network of more than 1,300 partners in 53 counties in central and western Oklahoma, the Regional Food Bank distributed 56.5 million pounds of food to Oklahomans in 2020.
Take time for yourself and your fellow Oklahomans and join in the fun of giving back to your community.
