For many years, the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission has hosted an aviation and aerospace advocacy day at the State Capitol during the regular session of the Oklahoma State Legislature. The purpose of the newly branded "AERO Oklahoma" Aviation & Aerospace Advocacy Day was to observe the state’s aviation, aerospace, and defense industry as an imperative economic engine for the state and to provide a unique opportunity for industry officials to come together and meet with elected officials regarding aviation. While some were at their booths in the Capitol’s rotunda, advocating for their needs moving forward, raising awareness of what the industry does for Oklahoma, and showcasing the potential of careers in the field, two industry groups visited with over 30 legislators and the Speaker of the House. They advocated for aerospace company interests, and for the preservation and advancement of the state’s airport system.

Visitors gathered to watch as Gov. Stitt addressed the importance of the aviation & aerospace industry in Oklahoma

Governor Kevin Stitt addressed those in attendance and noted aerospace’s $44 billion annual contribution to Oklahoma’s economy and explained that our state is home to over 1,000 companies, employing more than 200,000 people. The Governor also explained that Oklahoma is home to five military bases, seven National Guard bases, and one of just 12 Federal Aviation Administration licensed spaceports in the U.S.

Employees of the Aeronautical Center spent this day proudly conversing with the public about how individuals and companies within the industry can work together, or explore possible careers in aviation.
