With the roar of flames from the Olympic torch on July 23rd, the 2021 Summer Olympic Games will open in Tokyo, Japan. Athletes from around the world will compete to become the best in the world, in their respective sports. Runners, swimmers, gymnasts, bikers, archers, boxers, and more will strive to show the world that they are the champions of their sport. The best of the best will be able to wear an Olympic medal.
Viewers and fans will watch their favorite athletes and teams in these moments of Olympic glory. But what these spectators rarely see behind the triumphs are the countless hours, days, weeks, months and years that these athletes pour into their sport, developing their skill and honing their craft. A swimmer may compete in the pool in a race that takes mere seconds, but they have practically lived in that pool, training and preparing for those few seconds.
Success doesn’t come easy. Success comes with skill, skill comes from hard work, and hard work involves lots of training. A person does not reach excellence without training. This is true in any sport or profession and is true in the Federal Aviation Administration. We want to be excellent and successful here at the FAA. This is why we train. This is why we continually hone our craft. Our goal is not a finish line or a gold medal, but instead, our goal is "to provide the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world." This is why we train.
Train hard. Keep Learning. Reach for excellence.
