On March 11, 2021, every living Oklahoma City mayor from the 1980’s to the current mayor, Mayor David Holt, gathered together for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to announce the completion of the new Oklahoma City Convention Center. The shining glass, steel, and stone building gleamed as the six former and current Oklahoma City mayors signaled that the convention center is open for business! Already, trade shows, exhibitions, and career fairs are filling the center’s events calendar.
The state-of-the-art convention center boasts 500,000 square feet of space and includes numerous exhibition halls, meeting rooms, and ballrooms. The largest exhibition hall encompasses over 200,000 square feet and can be subdivided into four smaller areas. Additionally, the Convention Center hosts a 30,000 square-foot ballroom and over 44,000 square-feet of meeting rooms in various sizes and configurations. With easy access to downtown Oklahoma City businesses, hotels, and restaurants, the OKC Convention Center is an excellent venue for all events, be they small or large!
With the previous convention center (the former Cox Convention Center) aging and no longer able to support the burgeoning needs of the up-and-coming Oklahoma City, the need for a new convention center became obvious. The project (envisioned in 2009) was built by the MAPS 3 capital investment program by collecting a one-cent sales tax. Construction began in 2012 and was completed in early 2021. Nestled beside Scissortail Park, the new Oklahoma City Convention Center invites citizens and visitors to experience our city in a whole new way.
