A Revelatory Summer
Vol.7 Issue 5

As we move toward Independence Day, it’s important to remember that 245 years ago we became the United States of America. And every citizen of this country gets to proclaim and enjoy one important thing that unites us, we are all Americans. So, I hope we all reflect on the sacrifices made and celebrate the July 4th holiday with friends and family. We are blessed to live in a free country.

Independence Day – Fourth of July

We also recently celebrated our newest federal holiday, Juneteenth. On June 23, the Aeronautical Center/Oklahoma (AC/OK) Chapter of the National Coalition of Black Aviation Employees (NBCFAE) hosted a fantastic event celebrating Juneteenth and Black Music Appreciation Month. This virtual event was attended by many of our co-workers and highlighted the incredible music of great black musicians that has influenced more than 50 different musical genres throughout the years. Special thanks to the planning committee for developing a fantastic program enjoyed by all!

As Pride month comes to an end, remember our Nation promises to uphold the tenets of equality, liberty, and justice for all. Let’s work together to uphold the dignity of every person and work towards living peacefully together, respecting one another.

Keeping in line with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, be sure to register for FAA’s upcoming symposium on July 14-15th from 10am-4pm. These events represent much more than policies, programs or headcounts. It is about respecting the unique needs, perspectives and the potential in everyone.

Even though it may not feel like it, with all the rain and lower temperatures this week, it is still summer and people are still doing summer-time activities. This time of year, we typically get to enjoy an increase in boating, grilling and other outdoor fun; but, this can also result in an increase in safety incidents. Just remember, even when you are having fun, "Safety is STILL Our Passion." You are an important part of our mission, and we can’t be successful without you.

Your supervisors should be organizing your quarterly Safety Stand Down that encompasses familiarization with the Center, Summer safety tips, fireworks safety and how to use the Department of Labor’s Employees’ Compensation Operations and Management Portal. Be sure to allow yourself time to pause and reflect on ways to keep you and your family safe.

The FedsFeedFamilies campaign is underway and will continue through August 31st. Please consider participating, to help those that are food insecure.

If you haven’t already heard, the Quality Systems and Business Resources Office is offering a mentoring program. We are in need of additional mentors to make the program more successful. So if you have insight, passion or technical expertise that you would like to share with a fellow colleague, please consider volunteering your time to serve as a mentor.

As a final note, while most of us have had some level of disruption in our lives, the insects of Oklahoma continue to go about their normal routines. They are energetically working and gaining nutrient rich nectar and pollen from the MMAC’s Pollinator Habitat, thanks to members of the Office of Facility Management. Bees are a critical part of sustaining plant-life and we are happy to utilize the acreage at the Center to support this important part of the eco-system. The next time you are at the Center, be sure to drive by these Pollinator locations and admire their beauty as well as functionality.
