The Office of Facility Management (AMP) is currently overseeing a project to remodel the restrooms and main corridors of the Aviation Records Building (ARB). The project was awarded to ACU Construction, a Certified 8(a) Disadvantaged Business which is Minority Owned. Construction began on September 23, 2020. ARB has not had a major remodel since its renovation in 1990. Over the years, as occupant needs developed, AMP completed small remodel projects to bring the occupied spaces up to current standards, including new finishing touches such as carpeting, paint and highly efficient LED lighting. However, the restrooms have not been updated since the 1990’s. It was input from many of the building occupants through the annual Customer Satisfaction Survey that alerted AMP about the condition of the restrooms. As a result, AMP planned a capital project to fully renovate all of the restrooms and corridors in the building.
This project will involve renovating the main corridors of the building and the restrooms. The project is separated into 4 phases. Phase 1 started on the third floor with the full renovation of the restrooms, including new finishes and new energy /water saving devices. Phase 2 will follow, which includes remodeling the second-floor restrooms, and then Phase 3 involves renovating the first-floor restrooms. Phase 3 will also include modernizing the main entry corridors with new flooring, wall panels, and ceilings that will make a dramatic difference in the appearance of the building. The 4th and final phase will be remodeling the basement restrooms. The lavatory remodel project for the Aviation Records Building is expected to be completed by November 16, 2021.
