Highly engaged team members celebrating
We’ve asked teams that have high engagement scores, "What did you do to score so highly on the recent AMC Employee Engagement (Q12) Survey?" At least one team had an interesting response.
"We aren’t really sure what we did, but here is why we are so highly engaged as a team."
- Everyone on the team contributes to discussions and is not afraid to speak up, and speak their mind. We don’t discount anyone’s opinion, or make them feel bad because they are the only one that has that opinion.
- We laugh a lot! We see humor in the workplace as a good thing. If you aren’t having fun, you are doing something wrong!
- Our manager listens to us, supports our actions, and doesn’t micro-manage our work.
- Our manager works very hard to procure new equipment, training or other resources that we request in order to do our job better. We don’t always get what we want, but a lot of the time we do. If we don’t get it, we know the supervisor tried, and they explain why it wasn’t possible.
- We are given the authority and flexibility to manage our own programs and are viewed as the expert on our programs.
- We praise each other, and our manager regularly recognizes our contributions - informally and formally.
- Our customers frequently thank us for our support and speak highly of the support we provide. Of course that is probably because we are such an engaged team. When you are engaged and committed to your team it shows in customer support.
- We meet regularly as a team, typically once per week, this is especially true during the COVID, max-telework situation.
- When new members join the team, we do everything we can to welcome them to the team and make them feel like a part of the team.
- We don’t "talk" about other team members behind their back, unless it is to say good things.
- We discuss the Engagement Survey results as a team and decide if there is anything we need to work on, and come up with an action plan. Sometimes they work, and sometimes the plans don’t pan out, but we are always trying to be a better team.
So if this team of about 15 employees sounds like the best place in the FAA, or maybe the entire world to work, well the team unanimously would agree! If your team can create this environment, you too could be part of a team that you never want to leave, and one that is considered a high performing, highly-engaged team.
