TSI Partners with NATA - Launching a New Virtual Course for Aviation Operators
Vol.7 Issue 4

In response to an upcoming new FAA rule for aviation operators, the Transportation Safety Institute (TSI), which is located on the grounds of the Aeronautical Center, partnered with the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) in rolling out a new virtual, monthly training program. The Inspire Series is a new long-term initiative, designed to be agile as it emerges into the aviation community.

According to TSI, the FAA is currently working on a new rule that will require aviation operators to implement a formal internal Safety Management System (SMS). Anticipating the needs of a wide range of SMS aviation operators, (including FAA-certified Maintenance Repair Organizations, Air Charter Operators, Flight Training Schools, airfield Fixed Base Operators, and other FAA-regulated aviation operators) the Inspire Series will provide the training and implementation that is needed to comply with the new SMS.

The Virtual Inspire Series complements the in-person TSI/NATA Air Transport Safety Management Certification™ (ATSM) course by providing a conduit for the continuation of important safety management conversations with world-class subject matter experts.

"NATA and TSI have a shared mission in advancing safety and empowering safe aviation businesses," stated Roger Hood, TSI Senior Air Safety Investigator and Training Manager. "Any opportunity to foster ongoing conversations about risk management, safety improvement, and positive safety culture represents a win for the industry and the traveling public," he said.

The TSI Aviation Safety Division is the only U.S. Government Agency that provides training and assistance to these unique user groups. Upon completion of TSI training, the operator receives a U.S Department of Transportation (DOT) Certificate of Training.

The first installment of these monthly webinars took place on April 15, 2021, featuring Dr. Tony Kern, Founding Partner and CEO of Convergent Performance, LLC (covering, "Learning Again for the First Time: The Gift of Lost Proficiency"). Attendees will receive a digital certificate from the U.S. DOT/NATA, as well as .5 continuing education units toward their Aviation Safety Officer qualification.
