Scissortail Park Hosts First Ever Kite Festival
Vol.6 Issue 2
Scissortail Kite Festival Saturday, May 30, 2020

Grab some string, grab some paper, put it all together, hope for some Oklahoma wind, and go fly a kite! The Aeronautical Center is excited and proud to be a part of the First Kite Festival ever held at Scissortail Park (300 SW 7th Street) in downtown Oklahoma City! The event is planned for Saturday, May 30th from 11am to 4pm, and admission is free.

The Kite Festival is an event for the whole family! It will be an exciting menagerie of kites, contests, STEM-based learning, food, and fun! All ages are invited to attend and participate. Come and see team-synchronized kite flying, fighting kites, and even stunt kites. There will be contests and prizes awarded for largest kite, longest kite, best homemade kite, most artistic kite, highest flying kite, and much more! In addition to all the kite activities, there will be fun and games for kids of all ages, including circus performers, face painting, yard games, and live DJ music. Food trucks will also bring a host of appetizing offerings for purchase.

Kite flying

The Aeronautical Center is partnering with Scissortail Park, the Oklahoma Engineering Foundation, Edmond Public Schools and Oklahoma City Public Schools to bring an exciting and interactive STEM tent to the festival. Kids can learn about the principles of flight, how kites fly, how weather affects wind and kites, and even a "Kite First-Aid Station" to repair any damaged kites. Come and enjoy this exciting and "uplifting" family event!
