The third cohort of the Aeronautical Center Employee Development Program (AsCEnD) kicked off their first session on Tuesday, April 16th. The AsCEnD program is a seven-month program with the mission to broaden participants’ knowledge of the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center’s (MMAC) mission, structure, and business activities within all organizations across the Center. The program aims to develop employees as MMAC brand ambassadors while improving employee engagement and enhancing their professional skills and self-awareness.
Thirty cohort members from across the Center participated in their introductory session. The group started the day with a welcome and Center overview from Michelle Coppedge, Director of the Aeronautical Center; Kevin O’Connor, Deputy Director of the Aeronautical Center; Kim Sheppard, Chief of Staff, and AsCEnD program manager, Debbie Uglean. Following the Center overview, the group participated in a fun icebreaker activity called "You Had One Job", with participants laughing and strategizing to be the last standing work team in the scenario. Special thanks to Alex Chadwick for conducting a dynamic activity.
Participants then received an organizational briefing from members of the FAA Registry. Jay Tevis, Supervisor Aviation Safety Inspector of the Airmen Certification Branch, and Ronald Warcup, Senior Technical Advisor from the Civil Aviation Registry Division, talked about the history of airmen and aircraft records and how they are handled and processed. After the cohort entered the MMAC tunnel for a Center-wide severe weather drill, the group toured the FAA Logistics Center (AJW-L). In this part of the tour, participants received an AJW-L overview and toured the Radar Product, Auto/Comm, Navigation/Weather Product, and Custom Border Protection Product Groups.
