Anti-Bullying Module Part of Leadership Training

The FAA Academy is hosting and providing facilitator training in support of ongoing “just in time” managerial and leadership development. The training involves leadership from Technical Operations (Tech Ops), the Air Traffic Supervisors Committee (SUPCOM), members of Management Services’ Employee Development Group (AJG-L3), service units, and the Air Traffic Organization’s senior leadership. These leaders determined that high quality development training is needed for managers at every stage of their career and at all levels. This includes individuals working in a new supervisory position, as well as those that have a few years or several years in a leadership capacity. As determined by the group, there are always ways to improve upon one’s leadership skills. The Supervisory Development Initiative program team made a recommendation that learning be offered in ways that could be customized for local delivery, thereby, best meeting facility and regional development needs. They also determined that locally facilitated learning, resources, and distance-learning modules should be offered in addition to traditional, formal instruction. With guidance from ATO senior leadership, the second phase of the program, now called Continuous Leadership Development (CLD), will include intact management teams engaging in learning and development to most effectively support transfer of learning back on the job, with consistent messaging and application.

Leaders Teaching Leaders (LTL) is designed to provide learning and development to all levels of management in ATO operations (such as Air Traffic Managers of large facilities, Terminal District Managers [DMs], and Tech Ops DMs). To be successful in training and facilitating discussion about leadership topics, senior management must be knowledgeable and proficient with the appropriate skills to effectively conduct sessions among their subordinate “intact management teams.” After attending LTL Facilitator Preparation sessions, senior leaders will then have a determined (though lengthy) amount of time to conduct 1-day sessions of the LTL content with their intact management teams.

The FAA Academy (AMA) plans to host the 3-day LTL Course which will include four individual course offerings. Training will be conducted face-to-face and lesson topics include: Adaptive Leadership, Facilitation Tips, Anti-Bullying, and Performance Management System or Individual Performance Management. Presentations will be taught by ATO Leadership, the Office of Civil Rights, and Academy personnel. The Training and Evaluations Branch (AMA-23) is the official host of the training and will also conduct the Facilitator training. Personnel in the FAA Academy are excited about partnering with AJG-L3 and are looking forward to future training opportunities.
