January is known as National Human Trafficking Awareness Month; emphasis is placed on creating awareness and preventing crimes that deprive millions of people of their dignity and freedom. Human trafficking, and other forms of modern-day slavery, take place in various parts of the world, where people are sold for anything that buyers may require. It is a key time for us all as individuals to educate ourselves about human trafficking and crucially learn to spot the signs of trafficking. It is also a time for us to keep this awareness in our workplaces, our churches, our schools, to share with Representatives and everywhere else.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are committed to preventing Human Trafficking. The DOT collaborates with the federal, state, and local transportation stakeholders across the U.S. through the Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking, to engage awareness campaigns. As part of this, all DOT employees are required to take anti-human trafficking training every three years. The FAA and the aviation industry are an integral part of combating human trafficking.
