TIMBERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR – And What You Can Do with It
Vol.9 Issue 2
Modern sawmill sawing boards from logs

If you’re a homeowner and have lived in Oklahoma any length of time, then you’ve probably had to deal with some kind of tree issues. The Oklahoma Forestry Service is letting people know that if your trees ever fall down or have to be cut down, there’s still a chance for them to serve a purpose in your life.

People are now considering using the wood from their trees as a centerpiece of their home. It can be made into a tabletop, a bar counter, a gate or even a fence. Riley Coy of the Oklahoma Forestry Service says, "What if your grandpa planted a tree when he was a young man, and you’ve watched it grow up. It’s been through several generations of your family." The Forestry Service wants to get the word out, that a fallen tree can be used for a variety of purposes.

The Will Rogers Gardens are a great place to see examples of different kinds wooden creations. There are a lot of rustic-looking pieces that can be made from trees, especially if a piece isn’t straight or won’t fit on a mill.

Visit the resource page on the Oklahoma Forestry Services on its website, and contact a sawmill near you. Sawmills can turn your timber into a special work of art. There are certain products that can be made from certain species of trees, and in some cases, they might be able to come and pick up the wood from you.

The goal of Oklahoma’s Forestry resource program is to educate people about trees in an urban environment - changing the public’s thinking from one of discarding to one of creation.
