National Engineers Week 2023
Vol.9 Issue 2
MMAC National Engineers Week

Engineers Week is a week-long celebration for the way engineers make a difference in our world, and the week raises awareness of the engineering profession. This year, we were especially proud to celebrate the accomplishments of those working at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center.

Engineering Week was founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers and is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated workforce by helping to increase the understanding and interest in careers that are affiliated with engineering and technology.

The week kicked off on the birthday of our first U.S. President, George Washington, as he was one of our country’s first engineers. Before he became President, Washington was a surveyor and a military officer who was responsible for making maps and surveys during the French and Indian Wars – a skill which also transferred to his other occupations of being a farmer and businessman. Washington is recognized as being the inventor of the "drill plow," a plow with a rotating barrel that distributes seeds.

The theme for 2023 Engineers Week was "Creating the Future!" This theme reminds people to celebrate how engineers make a difference in our world, increases public dialogue about the need for engineers, and brings engineering to life for kids, educators, and parents. There are so many different types of engineers - even just here are the Aeronautical Center: General Engineers, Civil Engineers, Electronic Engineers, and Aerospace Engineers. The Center is always looking to fill those kind of positions.

Don’t forget to thank all of those who play a vital role in innovating solutions to global challenges that impact future generations. By working together to develop new technologies, products, and opportunities, engineers create new possibilities that make our world a better place.
