Base Maintenance Building Renovation Underway
Vol.7 Issue 7

Base Maintenance Building Conceptual Rendering

The renovation of the Base Maintenance Building is underway. The Base Maintenance Building is 52,884 square feet and was constructed in 1963. The new renovation project was awarded to Globe Construction for just over $11M. The renovation will include several modernizations to bring the building up to current codes, including seismic bracing and upgraded mechanical/electrical systems throughout the building to meet energy goals. In addition to the building modernization, this project will also provide an opportunity for the Office of Facility Management (AMP) to consolidate all the divisions into a single building. AMP-1/2 Directors and staff, AMP-100 Environmental and Safety Division, AMP-300 Operations and Maintenance Division, and AMP-400 Architecture and Engineering Division will all be under one roof! This has been a goal of the organization for many years, and it will be possible through this renovation.

Due to the critical functions that occur in the building, the construction will be completed in two phases. The first phase involves the renovation of the south half of the building and the second phase involves the renovation of the north half of the building. Currently, the contractor is working the first phase and as of today they have completed the asbestos abatement, demolition of the exterior and interior walls. They are currently working on the new exterior and interior walls in the south half of the Base Maintenance Building. The mechanical ductwork and electrical demolition are continuing and are nearing completion. The first phase is scheduled to be completed in February of 2022 and the second phase is scheduled to be completed in April of 2023.

AMP is creating a workplace that will accommodate the current and future space needs, while creating a "Workplace of the Future." Elements of the design include, workstations configured to encourage communication amongst team members, and there will be spaces designed for individual/focused work, along with several group meeting spaces (some for small gatherings, and others that can accommodate large groups). This is all being designed in accordance with the FAA administrative space standards.

The Office of Facility Management is looking forward to the completion of the project and a new place to call home in 2023.
