AsCEnD to the next level of Employee Engagement
Vol.5 Issue 5
Engaged employees are happy employees.

In the last few years, the percentage of engaged employees has been minimal but most recently we are seeing that employee engagement is on the rise. From the FedView Survey to the Gallup Q12 Survey, to other activities initiated by the AMC Employee Engagement Committee, defining and ultimately achieving high-levels of employee engagement is a top priority at the Aeronautical Center.

While researching and determining how employee engagement could be improved across the Center, the AMC Employee Engagement Committee identified a connection between employees’ level of engagement and their level of organizational and Aeronautical Center knowledge. The more that employees know, the more engaged they are likely to become. Enter the new Aeronautical Center Employee Development Program, “AsCEnD.”

AsCEnD is a 7-month long competitive program designed to impart an intimate familiarization of the Aeronautical Center upon the participants, while assisting them in improving their communication skills and transforming them into MMAC Ambassadors.

MMAC Employee Ambassadors are fully engaged with the Aeronautical Center. They are unofficial representatives of the Center and confidently communicate the mission and top initiatives of the Center to internal and external stakeholders. They serve as subject matter experts on his/her organizations’ products, services, and processes, and have a strong desire to share the organization’s culture and brand with others.

Onekia Smallwood, AsCEnD program manager states, “The AsCEnD program could potentially heighten employee engagement by providing participants with a thorough understanding of all the Center’s organizations, that includes the various Lines of Business, Tenant organizations and Directorates that make up the AMC family.”

AsCEnD has a tentative launch date of October 2019 and will focus on Aeronautical Center initiatives such as The 4-C’s (Cost Effectiveness, Culture, Collaboration and Communication). The application period will span three weeks and opens during the last week in August. Applicants will be required to respond to several questions and receive endorsement from their first-line manager to be considered. All applications will be rated by representatives from the AMC Employee Engagement Committee.

“A lot of the processes still need to be ironed out,” says Onekia, “but I know this program will help bridge knowledge gaps, improve engagement and empower employees to knowledgeably serve as MMAC Brand ambassadors.”
