Sharpening the Saw
Vol.5 Issue 5
Sharpening the Saw.
Abe Lincoln quote "If I had six hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend the first four hours sharpening the axe."

In the interest of building and enhancing our skills as employees and leaders, there is always time to ’sharpen the saw’ as Stephen Covey recommends in "The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People." It is up to us to renew and refresh our physical, spiritual, mental, and social/emotional nature so that we can be more effective in our life’s work. This means investing in ourselves on a regular basis so that we can gain benefits on a recurring basis. Sharpening the saw means working smarter, not harder and deliberately investing in one’s self-care.

Whether you want to take 15 minutes or an hour, here’s an opportunity to invest in yourself, increase your competencies and enhance your influence in the long-term. Learning something new can rejuvenate your mental state and give you insights and ideas that can circle back to your professional success.

Skillsoft is available to every federal employee through the e-learning management system (eLMS). Many books and webinars are available free of charge, and each month we plan to offer you some of the worthwhile training that’s available. Whether you want to hone your skills, or explore leadership topics, there’s something for everyone within every organization. You decide what’s right for you.
