This past May, the FAA hosted the annual Designated Agency Safety and Health Official (DASHO) Safety Awards Ceremony. For over 20 years, the first full week of May, every year has been recognized as the North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week, a continent-wide event spanning the countries of Canada, U.S.A., and Mexico. The goal during NAOSH week is to focus the attention toward employers, employees, partners and the public; placing emphasis on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home, and in the community.

May 6-8, 2019 the FAA celebrated "OSH Week", (three days of events in Washington D.C. headquarters) raising awareness of the people, purpose and passion required to make safety a habit in the workplace. The 3-day event culminated with a DASHO Safety Awards Ceremony.

The Awards Ceremony recognizes six different categories and five award types. Corey Black, Director of Facility Management for the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center was recognized with the ’Advancing a Safety Culture’ Award. Corey was recognized for his exceptional efforts in advancing organizational safety and health goals. Corey championed significant accomplishments and improvements to the quality of work life and occupational safety and health for the employees of the Aeronautical Center. His efforts include leading/developing health and safety training sessions, speaking engagements about occupational safety and health, creating or implementing office safety programs, and encouraging/providing safety equipment to personnel. Congratulations to Corey in helping the Aeronautical Center keep and maintain a strong safety culture!
