Sharing Our Story One Tour at a Time
Vol.4 Issue 4
J.C. Ogle, Branch Manager in the Logistic Center’s Automation Equipment Branch (AML-8010) gives a briefing to (L-R) Blanca Tovias, AFGE Local 2282 President, Kevin O’Connor, Deputy Director of the Aeronautical Center, Michelle Coppedge, Director of the Aeronautical Center, Keith Nelson, Assistant Secretary for the DOT Administration and Jerald Wolf, FAA Logistics Center.

As we swing into summer, employees can now enjoy their lunch outdoors, and the Center is thriving with activity. As you may have observed or witnessed, there are many changes going on at the Center. The Air Traffic Organization announced that the Logistics Center is being ‘virtually located’ under them and the debate about the future structure for air traffic control remains ongoing. New business opportunities are looming, several high level dignitaries visited the Center and important recognition ceremonies encompassed the month.

Just this year we have had visits from dignitaries and the general public alike; visitors such as - Rep. Bill Schuster, R-Pa., Mayor Mick Cornett, OKC, Sterling Payne, TSA, Congressional staffers from the offices of Sen. Inhofe, R-Okla.; Sen. Lankford, R-Okla.; Rep. Russell, R-Okla; Rep. Lucas, R-Okla; Rep. Cole, R-Okla; and the Governor of Oklahoma, Mary Fallin all came to the Center to learn more about the breadth and scope of operations you perform.

Most recently, Keith Nelson, Assistant Secretary for the Department of Transportation came to learn more about the shared services and research work performed here at CAMI. Mr. Nelson commented after his visit “I have encouraged my colleagues to prioritize a visit out to Oklahoma to see what all of you do. I look forward to continuing the conversations about the ESC and any other areas where there might be synergies, like support to the CBP.”

Additionally, we’ve also had visits from members of the Oklahoma Federal Executive Board, the Tinker Honorary Commander’s Club, and several executives from OST’s Office of Human Resources. Thank you for your participation in these tours. They provide an excellent opportunity to connect, educate and collaborate with leaders across government and industry.

In addition to these tours, we’ve co-hosted several successful events including the Collegiate Training Initiative, the Human Systems Integration Summit, and provided briefings at the recent FAA Technical Training ATC Summit held in Norman, OK June 6-7.

On April 27, 2018 the House passed a reauthorization bill (H.R. 4) that will renew the agency’s funding for another five years (FY 2019-2023). However, Congress must reauthorize the FAA funding by October 1, 2018 following the extension of its authority in the Consolidated Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2018. We’ll continue to monitor this and keep you apprised of any changes as they occur.

Special thanks to everyone who participated in your organizational spring Safety Stand Down events. More than 50 different safety events were scheduled across the Center, dedicated to having open dialogue across lines of management, labor and employees - all in the interest of improving employee safety.

In this issue, you’ll see a reflection of some of the many activities that our employees have been involved in over the past month.

Kindly,

Michelle Coppedge
