Reconstruction for the Multi-Purpose Building Underway
Vol.4 Issue 7
A current view of the 47-year old Multi-Purpose Building prior to renovation.

The construction contract for renovating the Multi-Purpose Building (MPB) was awarded to Flintco LLC in the amount of $43,723,000.00 on June 7, 2018. The project will be jointly funded by the FAA and the Oklahoma City Airport Trust (OCAT). Construction is planned to occur in two phases: Phase 1 includes the basement which will take approximately 1 year. Phase 2 includes the remainder of the building, floors 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Phase 2 will take approximately 3 years. Estimated completion for the entire project is fall 2022.

The Multi-Purpose Building was originally constructed in 1971 and provides 215,952 square feet of space. The building has not undergone a major renovation since its original construction. Once construction is complete, the building will provide a ‘workplace of the future’ environment for the Enterprise Services Center (ESC).

The Office of Facility Management’s Architecture and Engineering Division (AMP-400) is in the process of moving out many of the building occupants before construction starts. The Acquisition Office has been moved to a new, permanent location on the 2nd floor of Academy Headquarters Building (Bldg. #14). The Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) will be moving to the Flight Inspection Building (Bldg. #4) in November/December of this year. Some of the ESC basement occupants have moved to the CAMI Modular Building 1 and other basement occupants moved to the CAMI Modular Building 2 in August. Also in August, the ESC’s basement TRAIN room moved to the Headquarters Building, on the 1st floor.

Below are some of the architect’s renderings of a break area, the main lobby and the exterior.
