MMAC Participates in National “Bring Your Child to Work Day”

Bring Your Child to Work Day – Friday, April 27, 2018

As vehicles entered the Center the morning of Friday, April 27th, it was surprising to see so many kids coming to work with their parent. The Aeronautical Center was proud to be part of a national event, where girls and boys across the country can think about a future career without gender limitations and think imaginatively about their family, work and community life. This national public education program connects what children learn at school with the actual working world. Children learn that a family-friendly work environment is an employer and family issue, not just a woman’s issue. This special day helps kids discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life.

Families embrace a day of going to work together.

The day kicked off at 9am in the headquarters’ auditorium with Kevin O’Connor, Deputy Director of the Aeronautical Center giving a welcoming presentation to the kids and parents. After the briefing, families could go directly to their parent's work area or they could have registered for a few specially planned activities. The day’s activities extended into the afternoon if parents chose to take leave to participate.

Hundreds of families participated in this special event.
Participants were provided with a map of the day’s activities.

Families could visit the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute, the FAA Academy, the Enterprise Services Center, the Transportation Safety Institute, and participate in some hands-on STEM activities. Afternoon activities included a visit to the 99’s Museum of Women Pilots and/or indoor skydiving at iFLY. In addition, Aramark provided a special children’s menu, and two food snack trucks were on hand (Dippin’ Dots and Churros Meoqui). Families could have their picture taken with AirBear and they could participate in an inflatable soccer activity with OKC Energy.

Dippin’ Dots was one among two food trucks available.
Several children participated in a new offering…hands-on STEM activities.
In one of the STEM events, children learned about circuitry.

Here are comments that were received from some of the parents….

“In my 18 years of federal service, this is my first time being able to show my children what I do.”

“My children wanted to stay longer!”

“This was a great opportunity for my child to see what part I play in a pilot’s life, as well as to see the surroundings I’m in daily.”

“My children find it amazing and love seeing what I do. I am so glad that they get the opportunity to.”

Thanks to everyone who participated in helping make this day special for our future generation.
