Expectations When Converting to Windows 10
Vol.4 Issue 7
Windows 10 coming in 2018
Plan – Ask – Check - Learn

To ensure that the Enterprise Services Center (ESC) supported Desktop Client current portfolio of applications (see ESC Application Catalog) works seamlessly with Windows 10, the ESC Windows 10 Team is working with management-identified Consistent Testers (CTs) to test-drive Windows 10 and perform compatibility testing. If an issue is found, the ESC Windows 10 team works with CTs, FAA application owners, or assists CTs in working with external application owners to remediate, upgrade, and/or enable compatibility as authorized.

ESC-supported clients include:
AAQ-700, 710, and 720 (previously known as AMQ)
AMC-001 through 003
AMA-001 through -002
AMA-02x
AMA-4xx
AMA-5xx
AML
AMP
AMK

Which Applications Need to be Tested?
The entire application portfolio must be tested by December 2018 to ensure compatibility with the new Microsoft Windows 10 operating system with the ESC and ESC-supported Desktop clients.

How Do I Schedule Testing?
CTs are contacted a week and a half prior to their scheduled testing start date. CTs are required to test their job functions and applications on behalf of their organization and report all results on the CT KSN testing site. They will need to work with the ESC Windows 10 Team or application owners / manufacturers for resolutions or workarounds within the identified testing period.

The ESC Windows 10 Testing Team suggests and allows the CTs the comfort of using their operational machine or an organizational machine, as opposed to an ESC Windows 10 Team provided test machine, and retaining Windows 10 after their testing period is completed, essentially becoming an early adopter. However the CTs are required to:

  1. Consistent Testers (CTs) are required to obtain their manager’s written approval to the ESC Windows 10 team ('AMC-ESC-SPT email address) when they receive their testing notice, recognizing a change in support working conditions below throughout the Windows 10 testing schedule.

  2. Support Working Conditions change:
    1. Support is provided by the ESC Windows 10 Testing Team from Monday-Friday (8:00am – 4:30pm CST)
    2. Priorities are given to current CTs during their testing dates to meet their needs as quickly as possible, with limited resources.

  3. CTs are required to update or confirm their machine barcode on the CT KSN testing site.

  4. CTs are required to allow the ESC Windows 10 team personnel at least 48 hours to image the machine.

  5. CTs assume responsibility for backing up their data on the test machine.

NOTE: If the CTs use a test machine provided by the ESC Windows 10 Team, it is only provided during the CT’s identified testing period. There can be no exceptions due to time constraints.

Are there any ineligible individuals for testing?
The following types of users are not eligible and will be excluded from participating in the Windows 10 CT program:

  • FAA Executives
  • Direct support staff to FAA Executives

Also, multi-user computers, kiosk computers and computers using OPS_PROXY are excluded from the Windows 10 CT program.

Does your application require client-side Java runtime environment (JRE)?
If yes, the Windows 10 image includes 32-bit Java 8 with the most recent updates. Microsoft Edge browser does not support plug-ins including Java plug-ins.

Deployment
Deployment will take place throughout the calendar year 2019, starting with new machine deployments first and ending with “forklifting” remaining Windows 10 compliant machines toward the end of the year.
