The Office of Facility Management’s (AMP) construction of the new Common Air Route Surveillance Radar (CARSR) building is coming along nicely. It is one of the furthermost buildings on the west side of the Center. This new facility is located at 7001 West McLucas Street. It will be another training center for the FAA Academy. The building has 3 classrooms which will accommodate up to 25 students per classroom and has 3 separate labs for training on the CARSR, Beacon 6 and CD-2 (Common Digitizer 2) radar systems. The new building (Bldg #305) will also house the ARSR-2 (Air Route Surveillance Radar) and ARSR-3 ground level antenna components. This new facility will provide training for 241 radar technicians a year.

AMP will also be funding the move of the ARSR-3 tower that is currently located on the north east side of the intersection of Mike Monroney Boulevard and Foster Drive with the assistance of the Logistics Center (AML). The tower is currently being dismantled by AML technicians and will be reassembled in it’s new location later this Spring. This radar will be converted to a CARSR with the help of National Airway Systems Engineering Group (AJW) technicians. The building should be completed this Spring and engineers from the National Airspace System Technical Services Division (AMA-900) will finalize the installation of the radar equipment in order for training to begin the Fall/Winter of 2017.
