Trunk or Treat: A Halloween Tradition That Keeps Growing!

For more than 25 years, the Launching Pad Child Development Center has been a hub of excitement at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, especially during Halloween. Every fall, the Center’s children have embraced the spooky season with enthusiasm, donning their favorite costumes and spreading Halloween cheer.

In years past, one of the most anticipated events was "Haunt the Tunnels." During this cherished tradition, costumed children would parade through the tunnels on Center, collecting candy from employees who dressed up and cheered them on. It was a delightful experience that brought smiles to faces of all ages.

However, when 2020 ushered in changes to activity levels across the Aeronautical Center, the Launching Pad staff took the opportunity to reimagine the event. Enter "Trunk-or-Treat," a fresh spin on the Halloween tradition designed to keep the fun alive while adapting to new circumstances. Instead of the tunnels, the celebration moved outdoors, where parents and employees decorated their cars and filled their trunks with candy.

This year’s Trunk-or-Treat was the biggest one yet! Parents, employees, and even some new participants rallied together, eager to join the festivities. From princesses and dinosaurs to a particularly innovative recycling man, the children’s creativity and excitement were on full display. Participants ensured no child was left empty-handed, with candy flowing generously from trunk to bucket.

What makes this event special is not just the candy or the costumes but the sense of community it fosters. The collaboration between the Launching Pad and Aeronautical Center employees transforms Halloween into a shared celebration, strengthening bonds and creating lasting memories.

As the event grows year after year, Trunk-or-Treat has solidified its place as a beloved Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center tradition. It’s a perfect example of how adapting to change can lead to new, cherished experiences. The Launching Pad, its students, and employees are already looking forward to next year’s celebration!
