Managers from across the Aeronautical Center recently attended a two-hour Active Shooter briefing held in the headquarters auditorium. Several keynote speakers were present, including Jennifer Waltrip, Special Agent (AXF-520), Captain Aaron Bush from the Oklahoma City Police Department’s Commander Tactical Team, and Deputy Director of the Aeronautical Center Kevin O’Connor.
Leaders from the Office of Facility Management – Corey Black, Travis Hildebrand, and Kyle Daniel presented critical information and were instrumental in hosting this event. The goal of the briefing was to make leadership aware of security procedures, and the importance of calling 4-3444 whenever there is an emergency. They also discussed the types of emergency responders that will be involved when there is an incident and the importance of maintaining and updating a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP).
This plan describes how essential operations will continue in the event of an emergency and the processes needed to get departments working together to resume normal activities.
Having a plan and knowing how to implement it increases the chances of keeping employees safe. Training and practice are essential in preparing for any crisis situation.
