Section 508 Compliance and FOIA Records
Vol.9 Issue 8

The Enterprise Services Center (ESC) provides Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) records for posting to the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Reading Room. These records are part of a proactive approach to providing information related to frequently requested FOIA records. Providing these requests proactively is more efficient, saving time and labor costs.

When processing records for posting to the FAA Reading Room, all documents must incorporate Section 508 guidance to be accessible to all. Section 508 compliance ensures equal access to electronic information for everyone, particularly people who are blind or visually impaired. The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires the FAA to make web content on internal and external websites 508 compliant. The FAA Reading Room recommends handlers to complete additional training sessions to gain knowledge and create accessible documents, ensuring the correct preparation of Section 508 compliant documents.
