Aeronautical Center Becomes First FAA Location to Receive ISO 45001 Certification
Vol.6 Issue 9

The Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) completed an external audit of our Environmental, Occupational Safety and Health Management System (EOSHMS) on September 4, 2020. Auditors from our third party registrar, Intertek, virtually toured the grounds of the Center with the assistance of a live streaming application. Interviews were also held with management and employees via Zoom to determine the Center’s conformance to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems standards.

For the first time ever, the Environmental portion of the management system received no findings during the audit. Two minor findings were noted for the Occupational Safety and Health portion. One finding cited a need to perform a risk assessment for refueling operations of emergency generators. The second finding noted a lack of formal documentation for determining compliance to our legal and other requirements not addressed during the annual safety and environmental inspections. The Office of Facility Management’s Facilities Services Division (AMP-100) Environmental and Safety staff has developed and implemented corrective action plans to correct the nonconformances, which have been accepted by the registrar.

As a result of the audit, the MMAC is the first location in the FAA to achieve certification to ISO 45001. For more than a decade now, the MMAC has been able to achieve and maintain certification of the EOSHMS. This would not have been possible without support from management and participation from every employee. Thank you all for your dedication to making the MMAC a safer and more environmentally friendly workplace.

The Aeronautical Center becomes the first among various FAA facilities to become ISO 45001 certified.
The Aeronautical Center successfully completed an Environmental, Occupational, Safety and Health Management System external audit in September 2020.
