LitterBlitz 2021 - Volunteers Needed!

With hopes of returning to work at the Aeronautical Center in the fall, it would be nice to see roadsides looking clean and free of trash. OKC Beautiful has requested volunteers for the 2021 LitterBlitz campaign, and the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center has stepped up to the plate. Last year’s LitterBlitz campaign was cancelled due to the global health crisis, but this year, in taking proper precautions, employees can now get outdoors and enjoy some fellowship and sunshine. There’s likely to be more trash on the roadside for volunteers to pick up since we missed a year.

LitterBlitz is a nation-wide city clean-up program that has been in existence for 20 years, and it saves thousands of tax-payer dollars. Volunteers are asked to pick up trash along designated roadsides, and to place their bags in a centralized location for pick up. The City then collects the bags, and presto! Everyone can enjoy having clean roadsides and neighborhood!

LitterBlitz is a great way to meet kind-hearted people who take pride in their community, and it is an enjoyable way to get some exercise. The fresh air is very pleasing, especially after everyone has been cooped-up inside and isolated for so long. In years past, the Aeronautical Center volunteers have enjoyed the company of other volunteers from nearby Western Heights Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and the 405 Ruckers. This is the perfect opportunity to come together for a good cause.

Whether you are connecting with co-workers, friends or neighbors, we ask that you observe physical distancing as much as possible, and being outdoors together does make it easier. Please wear your mask and gloves at all times and be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after you’ve completed your volunteer time.

Locations around the Aeronautical Center are still available for clean-up, so sign up today! Locations include the area spanning from SW 59th Street and Regina to the MMAC gate; the MMAC gate South to 74th Street and MacArthur Boulevard and streets located just south of the Aeronautical Center.

LitterBlitz is a great way for individuals and families to do some community service, and to stretch the legs. Supplies like garbage bags and rubber gloves are provided. Depending on weather and insects, it might be a good idea to bring some sunscreen and bug repellent. It’s not a bad idea to bring a couple of bottles of water with you as well. If you feel like giving back to your community while visiting with co-workers you haven’t seen in a while, register today and help make Oklahoma City beautiful!
