Our Blood Institute logo

Our Blood Institute, formerly known as the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI), is the primary blood supplier for the state of Oklahoma. OBI exclusively services more than 95% of Oklahoma’s hospitals, medical facilities, and air ambulances, including other local health systems such as Saint Francis, OU Health, SSM St. Anthony, INTEGRIS Health and Mercy hospitals.

OBI has long been a proud example of the Oklahoma Standard in action, with roots in the state that stretch back almost 50 years. In 1976, they were incorporated as the Oklahoma Blood Institute by a group of local physicians who recognized the need to improve our community’s blood-related healthcare services and have grown to become the sixth-largest independent blood center in the nation, with blood centers in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. OBI has nine donor centers across Oklahoma located in Ada, Ardmore, central and northwest Oklahoma City, Edmond, Enid, Lawton, Norman, and Tulsa. They are scheduled to open a new center in Broken Arrow in the spring of 2024. OBI is very proud of their local blood collection operations and has a record of providing top-notch customer service which includes ensuring an adequate blood supply to their partners even during the toughest of times.

Understanding the need for blood donors

If you have’t given blood before, you may be wondering what makes donating so important. Blood donations help people in need within our community. Donors, especially those who donate regularly, keep our nation's blood supply stable. Although many people choose to donate blood after disasters, blood is needed every day of the year. Just one donation can help save up to three lives! By taking time out of your busy schedule to give blood, you could be giving a friend, a family member, a neighbor, or someone else the chance to live to see another day.

The Aeronautical Center recently hosted a blood drive on February 7th and there are upcoming drives scheduled for April 25th, September 4th, and December 5th. The drives will occur in the HQ Building, rooms 148 A&B. Watch for broadcast messages and posters for sign-up links! While supplies last, each successful donor has a chance to win gift cards and vouchers from the EA Bookstore and Blue Sky Café after every blood drive.
