ESC Offers Assistance with Electronic Record Compliance
Vol.10 Issue 2
Team members work in unison to prepare documents for scanning.

In June of 2024, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) mandate (M-19-21) for the transition to electronic records will require agencies to achieve electronic content compliance. The goal is to move toward a paperless future. The Federal Government spends hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars and thousands of hours annually to create, use and store Federal records in analog formats. The Enterprise Services Center (ESC) offers a service that can assist agencies in accomplishing electronic content compliance.

All permanent records in all federal agencies must be managed electronically to the fullest extent possible for eventual transfer and accessioning by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).

The process is simple, and the types of documents or sources used do not matter. The Enterprise Content Services (ECS) department within ESC is available to accept electronic and paper records. These contents are then digitized, and all text within the documents becomes searchable with ESC. Existing electronic documents can be imported or migrated, and all text becomes searchable - depending on the document type.

Strong records management is necessary for transparency and accountability on behalf of the American public. This initiative is aimed at improving mission delivery, customer service, and accountable stewardship.
